Meet Our Team

Scott Drees

Drawing on his broad background of over 19 years of experience, which includes all facets of construction, Scott manages the operations of the company and oversees each project team. Clients seek his personable demeanor and have come to rely on Scott for a winning combination of sophistication, cost structure, and an unwavering commitment to client satisfaction. Scott holds a B.S. in Construction Management from the Milwaukee School of Engineering. He also holds a LEED AP BD + C certification and is a Certified Professional Constructor (Level 1AC) from the American Institute of Constructors. He also serves on the  Froedtert & MCW Digestive Disease Board.

Shawn Selk

As CFO, Shawn is responsible for the administrative, financial and risk management operations of the company, including the development of a financial and operational strategy, metrics tied to that strategy, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve assets and report accurate results. Shawn supervises the company’s internal accounting team and creates financial reports, maintains accounting records, and establishes a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk, and enhance the accuracy of the company’s financial’s.

Darren Miller

After starting his Milwaukee-based career in architecture and design, Darren’s 25-year career has afforded him a diverse level of experience within the architecture, construction, and real estate space.  Having trained his focus in owners’ representation, project management and design development, he relies heavily on his postgraduate training having delivered more than $100M in construction for the financial, data security, communications, hospitality, and executive residential sectors.


Darren holds a master’s degree in architecture from the School of Architecture and Urban Planning at UW-Milwaukee.  An alumnus of the Milwaukee Business Journal’s “40 under 40” class of 2013, he is also humbled to be a past president (2020-2021) of the Rotary Club of Milwaukee.

Leading the company is Scott Drees, President & CEO; Shawn Selk, CFO, and Darren Miller, Vice President.

Our subcontractors utilize LEED and Green Globe standards to continuously evaluate the environmental performance of our green buildings and the materials we utilize for each during construction. We are active participants in the Wisconsin Green Building Alliance and are proud to be a Trade Ally with Focus on Energy.

Firm History

Altius Building Company was founded in 2002 to serve a niche construction management marketplace; one that offers a boutique experience at a lower cost. The company was acquired in 2016 in conjunction with Construction Management Group, Inc., the managerial and administrative entity of Beyer Construction (est. 1951). This established the company while providing a new vision and an evolution for the company. It also leveraged one of our pivotal value advantages by retaining the institutional knowledge of staff members with tenure of 25+ years each.

Safety Matters

Our safety program starts with Upper Management and flows to all front-line workers who are required to take safety training, including the OSHA 30-hour certification course. Our strong commitment to safety leads to improved performance and favorable results. To complete a quality and successful project on schedule, Altius eliminates job site hazards and risks, deploying a workforce that follows all rules and regulations, including new COVID-19 protocols, and invokes a relentless, always improving safety culture.


We use the latest construction technology. With IR Thermal, we can determine moisture damage, electrical issues, and energy conservation. Using drones provides an on-demand visual record, making it easier to determine distance, perimeter or volume. We use innovative management and scheduling software as well, establishing our company as market leaders in the industry.
