Altius Building Company is honored to have received a 2020 Mayor’s Design Award for the Harbor View Plaza project within the inner harbor of Walker’s Point. This new public plaza design was a collaborative effort alongside Ayres Associates and the Harbor District. The development connects the past with the future all while creating a public plaza that takes advantage of waterfront access and is designed to resemble shipping containers synonymous with ports from around the world. A fitting tribute to the past while also being an environmental patron to the future.
The community is well in love with this public plaza enjoying the play structure featuring a 17’ high spiral slide, water play area, water features, canoe and kayak launch, LED post top lights, wall display and ample tables and bench seating. A unique feature is that of a 3,000-gallon underground reservoir for the splash pad.
“This was a fun project for us! One that certainly has stood out with great workmanship, cool materials and that resulted in an inviting attraction for all generations. It’s hard to believe the area was once a transportation hub with heavy industry. The cool factor is not only that we were part of creating the first public park with green space at a working waterfront location in the inner harbor, but that we partnered with the best in the industry in order to productively adapt and reuse the space. Working with the Harbor District was an absolute treat. We look forward to working together again soon.”
