Altius Building Company Receives a GOLD Projects of Distinction Award

Altius Building Company is honored to have received a 2020 Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Wisconsin Projects of Distinction, Excellence in Construction Award for The Yards located in historic Walker’s Point, Wisconsin.  The Yards was awarded the GOLD award for excellence in construction within the multifamily residential category. The Projects of Distinction encompass the best construction projects within the chapter that demonstrate the quality and professionalism of merit by ABC Wisconsin members.

The Yards is a new five-story, 102,367 SF, 86-unit multifamily development in historic Walker’s Point. It persevered the coldest winter ever recorded, nearby railroad vibration traffic and the onset of COVID-19. The Yards was successful as a direct result of partnership. The combination of a great development partner, Linden Street Partners; an outstanding builder and construction manager, Altius Building Company; a top-tier creative architect, Rinka+; and a fabulous location in a dynamic growing urban market with the support of General Capital Group as a land investor.

“The Yards development is deserving of an ABC Projects of Distinction Award as it took a forgotten and overlooked site in historic Walker’s Point and turned it into a community housing necessity. It set the bar high for economical housing units, persevered through a harsh winter, and survived the onset of COVID-19. Altius was among the first to implement proactive health safety protocols on-site allowing the site to remain active, which resulted in units delivered within 16 months, without an incident and under budget. Our staff stepped up to the plate and hit a grand slam despite railroad vibration challenges, just-in-time delivery of materials, darn cold weather and the pandemic. This team is deserving of a standing “O”.”

The projects were judged in a rigorous process by a panel of construction experts based on a number of criteria, including safety, quality, owner satisfaction, execution and coordination, budgeting, difficult and unusual challenges and overall distinctiveness.
